Technology, Architecture & AI Roadmap

Building a scalable foundation for Power BI project intelligence and AI-assisted executive storytelling.

Current Product Architecture

Active Development

Bond Visuals is currently developing a family of Power BI custom visuals for project, programme and schedule reporting. The initial products include Transformation Timeline, Scenario Comparison, Dependency Explorer and 4D Timeline.

The current products are designed to operate primarily within the Microsoft Power BI environment. Visual rendering, interaction and project-data calculations are implemented using modern web technologies and TypeScript.

Client-side execution

Current visual functionality is designed to execute within the Power BI environment without requiring a separate cloud application.

Data handling

The initial visual products are designed around the Power BI data model and do not require project schedule data to be transferred to Bond Visuals infrastructure.

AI status

The current visual products do not depend on generative AI. AI-assisted capabilities are being investigated as a separate product-development stream.

From Project Visualisation to Executive Storytelling

The longer-term product vision is to develop a Project Executive Storytelling toolkit that helps organisations move from project data and visualisation toward concise, decision-useful project intelligence.

Bond Visuals is currently gathering customer and project-management intelligence to understand which information executives, programme leaders and project controls teams most need to interpret quickly. This discovery work is informing the product roadmap rather than assuming that AI should simply be added to the existing visuals.

Product direction: Transform structured project information into visual context, analytical signals and, ultimately, AI-assisted executive narratives.

Google Cloud & Gemini Roadmap

Future Product Capability

Google Cloud is particularly relevant to the longer-term product roadmap because Bond Visuals is investigating the use of Gemini and Google Cloud services to provide AI-assisted analysis of project information alongside the Power BI visualisation layer.

The objective is not to replace Power BI. Instead, cloud services would complement the visual layer by providing capabilities that are difficult to implement entirely within a client-side custom visual.

1. AI experimentation and product prototyping

Initial Google Cloud usage is expected to focus on experimentation, prototyping and evaluation of Gemini-based capabilities. Potential use cases include summarising project information, identifying schedule signals, generating variance narratives and helping project professionals interpret complex project data.

2. Cloud Run services

If cloud-backed capabilities demonstrate sufficient customer value, lightweight application services could be deployed using Google Cloud Run.

The exact architecture will be validated through product experimentation and customer requirements before production implementation.

3. Project intelligence and executive storytelling

A future service layer could process structured project information and selected historical snapshots to support AI-assisted analysis. Potential outputs include schedule variance explanations, milestone summaries, dependency observations, risk signals and concise executive briefing content.

4. Data, observability and operational services

As the product evolves, Google Cloud services may also provide appropriate capabilities for application hosting, secure service integration, logging, monitoring, secrets management and application telemetry.

Development Roadmap

Current

Product Development

Complete and harden the initial Power BI custom visual portfolio and establish production-quality engineering practices.

Next

Conduct automated testing, visual regression testing, beta validation and customer discovery to identify the highest value product capabilities.

Future

AI Prototyping

Evaluate Gemini and Google Cloud services for project intelligence, narrative generation and executive storytelling capabilities.

Scale

Commercial Platform

Introduce validated cloud services, production operations, commercial distribution and ongoing product development as customer demand is established.

Security & Data Principles

Security and data minimisation are important design principles as Bond Visuals moves from standalone Power BI visuals toward cloud-assisted capabilities.

  • Current visual architecture: the initial products do not require customer schedule data to be transmitted to Bond Visuals cloud infrastructure.
  • Future cloud services: data flows will be introduced only where a demonstrated product requirement exists.
  • Service security: future APIs and application services will be designed around authenticated and appropriately secured communication.
  • Operational security: cloud logging, monitoring and secrets management will be considered as production services are introduced.
  • Enterprise considerations: privacy, access control, performance and maintainability will be incorporated into the architecture as the product matures.

Why Google Cloud

Google Cloud provides an opportunity to accelerate the transition from a Power BI visual product portfolio toward a broader project-intelligence platform.

In particular, access to Gemini and associated Google Cloud infrastructure would allow Bond Visuals to experiment with AI-assisted project analysis without prematurely building a large cloud platform before the highest-value use cases have been validated.

The immediate objective is therefore to use cloud resources efficiently for technical experimentation, product prototyping and validation, with production cloud expenditure increasing only as validated product capabilities and customer demand justify it.
